Aim Of The Reading Club
Primarily, the purpose of the Reading Club is to create an opportunity for people to become enthusiastic and enthralled with the wonderful world of literature. By organising a reading group it allows people to share the various subjective illusions and opinions generated. The group shall reflect, discuss and debate through the limitless possibilities and meanings that a wide range of international literature has to offer.
Secondly, the Reading Club shall enable the participants to increase their exposure to the native English language thereby giving them a first class opportunity to improve their standard of English listening, reading and speaking. Coordinating the entire session in English only shall ensure this. In the case of a diverse audience, in terms of their standard of English and literature, the conductor shall create groups accordingly.
Due to the lack of knowledge regarding the demographic of the audience, the Reading Club shall be diverse with the literature on offer. The format of the Reading Club shall be dynamic to ensure that the audience’s interest is maintained. This will be achieved by presenting the unit plan to the participants and requesting feedback to determine what is the optimum literature and format (the type and depth of the topics the participants appreciate) that shall sustain healthy participation figures.
As it is intended communication with the participants will be high, so that the Coordinator can offer, if they so wish, additional recommended literature. All material and topics in the structure of the reading club have been referenced including a handout of the related recommended literature (in English).
